It is a Singaporean pastime to talk about the cost of living in Singapore. Sit down for lunch with a group of Singaporeans and you’ll find that the topics generally revolve around how expensive it is to buy a house, or to rent an apartment, or to own a car, or to have kids, or to hire a helper, or to go on a holiday, or even to buy lunch. (You may observe, like I have, that the more money a Singaporean has, the more they bemoan how expensive it is to live here.) What isn’t talked about enough is what living in Singapore really costs you: your peace of mind.
And so, for the sake of my peace of mind, I am starting a blog about the trivial yet vexing things that happen in this country, which I have the misfortune of finding out about and which I do not have the serenity to accept. I’m calling it “In Bad Taste”. This will probably be the most niche blog to exist on Bear Blog, and also the least interesting to the general Bear Blog reader. But I need this: I need to set down these annoyances in writing, to cut them down into tiny, harmless snippets, and to mock and poke fun at them, so that I may be free of them. Also, therapy is too expensive.
In Bad Taste will be updated as regularly as my mental health demands it.
